NOTICE: On July 8, 2022, the governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 776, permanently authorizing notaries public commissioned in the state to remotely notarize electronic documents as of July 1, 2023, and Emergency Video Notarization (“EVN”) is effective immediately. Please check back with us this summer for Remote Online Notarization.
North Carolina allows commissioned notaries to perform electronic notarizations only; with the DocVerify e-Notary platform, notaries will be enabled to electronically notarize a document or a set of documents without the use of paper or a rubber stamp. Even though electronic tools are use, the process is traditional, requiring the notary and the signer to be in the same physical location for the identity of the signer to be verified.
